Picture this - "What if mankind evacuated Earth and forgot to turn off one robot?"
That was the original idea behind Pixar's next feature, Wall-E (pronounced "Wally"). The titular robot has been diligently performing his cleaning tasks for over 700 years since mankind left the planet behind. As a huge fan of both Pixar and science fiction, this trailer got me excited. My guess? Wall-E finally gets some company via the stars...
He sure is cute, but...um...he reminds me of Number 5 from Short Circuit.
While we're on the Pixar topic, check out this list of easter eggs planted throughout their movies. For example, the Pizza Planet delivery truck has made an appearance in every single feature (even Finding Nemo). Stanley Steamer (from Cars) makes a cameo in the short film, Boundin'. Linguini (from Ratatouille) is the poor victim of the alien abductors in Lifted.
And did you know that the teaser trailers for Pixar movies don't have any footage from the movies themselves? It's all created specifically for the trailer. I think every trailer should be like that. Instead of splicing together random shots scattered throughout the film and throwing in some thundering sound effects and music, why not make the trailer a story of its own? A kind of prologue, preface, or ancillary narrative?
