Best Songs You Probably Haven't Heard

Before I begin, allow me to introduce you to the best way to hear full-length songs for free:

www.imeem.com

All you have to do is sign up with an email address (it takes five seconds), and then you can search and listen to full-length songs completely free. No catch. I'm serious. I've linked all of the following songs to their respective imeem pages.

1. "Falling Slowly" by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova

Pictured above, you may have heard this duo Sunday night when they performed at the Oscars. The song is from the independent film Once, which I hear is amazing. They sound great together. It's a little melancholy, but wait on the chorus.

Best Line: "You have suffered enough/ and warred with yourself/ it's time that you won."

2. "Killing the Blues" by Alison Krauss and Robert Plant

If it sounds familiar, that's because it's currently playing in a JC Penny commercial. Krauss has the most beautiful voice you'll ever hear, and the bittersweet cowboy melody will leave you pining for your days out West on a horse ranch. Assuming you ever had days like that.

All of Krauss' work with Union Station is great, too.

Best Line: "Leaves were falling/ just like embers/ in colors red and gold/ they set us on fire."

3. "All the World" by Fauxliage

If Leigh Nash's voice sounds familiar, that's because she's the former singer of Sixpence None the Richer, also a decent band, though they were a one-hit-wonder. Fauxliage combines catchy melodies with ambient electronica.

Best Line: "I'm having a hard time/ I'm making you do the hard time, too."

4. "Lighted Up" by Gabriel Mann

If you like well-arranged piano pieces, this one's a keeper. Mann got famous when his music was featured on TV shows like Arrested Development, The Real World, Road Rules, and What About Brian, to name a few.

Best Line: "Sometimes I need to be neglected/ sometimes love looks good in gray."

5. "No One Has To Know" by Eliot Morris

This Auburn University graduate has a way with acoustics and catchy lyrics.

Best Line: "Let's take a ride/ inside the night air."

6. "Hollow of Your Hand" by Jeff Black

GREAT drum loop and piano licks. Jeff used to play with Pixar favorite Randy Newman.

Best Line: "Oh, I am wealthy by/ the measure of where I will be in time."

7. "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap

Remember that cool song from Garden State? Well this isn't it, but it's a hauntingly beautiful a capella by that band's (Frou Frou) lead singer.

Best Line: "Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth/ mid-sweet talk..."

8. "Business Time" by Flight of the Conchords

If this doesn't make you laugh, you aren't human. And it's really catchy, too.

Best Line: "Brushing our teeth/ it's all part of the foreplay."

9. "The Way I Am" by Ingrid Michaelson

That really catchy song from the Old Navy commercials this winter.

Best Line: "If you are chilly/ here, take my sweater."

10. "Suppermassive Black Hole" by Muse

The band name is mythological, the lyrics are astronomical. Is it surprising that I like this song? Or that it's currently my ringtone?

Best Line: "Glaciers melting in the dead of night/ and the superstars sucked into the supermassive." (???)
