Well, technically it isn't exactly over...yet. The WGA had a meeting on Saturday to discuss the New Deal, and now the plan is to vote on it tomorrow. If they vote YES, writers will go back to work on Wednesday. If they vote NO, the strike will continue until the deal is "ratified," which will take another 10-12 days.
My guess? They're eager to get back to work, and will vote YES tomorrow. That means actual production on most shows will start back in 2 or 3 weeks. Luckily for us, the networks are planning on extending the 2008 season to late June. That's great news for us, because we'll get about 3 1/2 months of new TV before the summer hiatus.
The show-runners behind Lost have already committed to producing as much as six additional episodes this season, for a total of 14 episodes of Season 4, as opposed to the originally-planned 16. My hope is that the writers will re-tool the second half of this season to make it fit into 14 episodes, instead of holding two episodes until next spring (ick). That means we'd get an entire season of Lost this spring, and a fast-paced one at that, with less filler.
No word yet on other shows...it's still really early. I'll post anything I find out here, so you won't have to dig around.
