Lost Returns!

That's right - this Thursday, the wait is finally over.

For those of you that are serious Lost-watchers, you can check this blog every Friday for my thoughts/responses to each week's episode. I'll even do all the digging around online for screencaps so you won't have to!

In preparation, I've put together the following list of things you may not have known or seen that I think will play key parts in Season 4. Don't worry, there are no Season 4 spoilers - I haven't even read those, because they ruin the experience.

1. The Mobisodes

In case you weren't aware, for the last few months the producers of Lost have been releasing a 2-3 minute "mobisode" every week. A lot of them were pointless, but this week's was crazy. It involves Vincent and Jack's dad.

We know that Jack's dad is going to play a role in Season 4, seeing as he's in the trailer (see a screencap here), and seeing as the producers, well, told us he would.

What's the deal with these dead people popping up all over the Island? Anna Lucia and Yemi both appeared to Eko, Jack saw his dad, and Ben saw his dead mother. Remember how interested Captain Jack Sparrow...I mean, Richard Alpert...seemed to be in Harry Potter....I mean, young Ben...when he found out that Ben had seen his dead mother?

The crazy thing about that mobisode is that Jack's dad appears to be an autonomous individual, instead of just a vision/dream. Is he a manifestation of the Black Smoke?

If you want to watch any of the other 12 mobisodes, go here.

2. Jacob

The producers have compared Jacob to the Emperor from Star Wars, and promised that he's an integral part of the show's overall story. We all remember that horrific scene in the cabin. But most people missed this quick shot of Jacob's face. The producers have also confirmed that Ben is "controlling" Jacob using that circle of volcanic ash around his cabin, but that Jacob also has a way of controlling Ben.

3. The Island's History

In the Season 3 DVD commentary, the writers said that the Others are a conglomerate of many different groups of people. Every time a new group comes to the Island, most of them are killed, and a few join the Others. How long has this been going on? I think a REALLY long time.

Richard, for example, is probably from the Black Rock. In Ben's flashback, we see him in 19th Century clothes, and he hasn't aged a bit in 30 years. The Island must contain/be some fountain of youth. I'm hoping we'll learn more about the pre-Black Rock inhabitants of the Island this season (i.e. the ones that built the ruins).

4. Find 815

This interactive online "experience" has been going on for the last month, and the writers have promised that it is part of the overall narrative of the show.

Oceanic Airlines gives up the search for Flight 815, but an IT Manager for Oceanic, Sam Thomas, is determined to find the plane, because his partner, Sonya, was a flight attendant on board.

Sam gets a weird email from 'The Maxwell Group' pointing him towards a boat leaving Jakarta for the Sunda Trench. Sam flys to Indonesia and hops aboard the boat, where a mysterious man is searching for the Black Rock. The "experience" isn't over yet, so we don't know how this is going to fit into the show. But I'm guessing that the Freighter people who are arriving this season are part of the Maxwell Group (a division of Widmore Industries), and that Sam Thomas is going to find either the Island or the crashed plane that Naomi mentioned.

Go here for a more detailed synopsis of Find 815.

Also, Wednesday night at 9PM, ABC is reshowing last season's finale, with added on-screen information (think VH1's Pop-Up Video). Then Thursday night, watch the recap show at 8PM and the premiere, 'The Beginning of the End', at 9PM. And then find out why George Michael is performing in Eli Stone's living room at 10PM.

On an unrelated note, two pieces of music have been added to the music page on the right.
