Major Karl Lewis, who works at a nearby Air Force Base, said no aircraft from his base were flying over Stephenville on Jan. 8, when most people reported the sighting. He does say that he's "90 percent sure this was an airliner. With the sun's angle, it can play tricks on you."
I'm pretty sure most competent adults can recognize an airplane when they see one. But then again, over 26% of Americans believe that UFOs really are visitors from the stars, according to a 2006 AP poll. That's one out of every four people. These people must all coalesce in places like Stephenville, Texas.
On a side note, UFO sightings have been reported since at least the 13th Century. The picture above is a 1710 painting of the baptism of Christ by Aert de Gelder. Ancient Astronaut nut Erich Von Daniken believes this Mayan sarcophagus depicts King Palenque in a spaceship. I mean, just look at all the indisputable evidence! These cave paintings from 10,000 B.C. obviously portray astro-cavemen, and this ancient Japanese figurine is definitely a guy in a spacesuit.
The most convincing proof that aliens are among us? This girl from the American Idol premiere last night.
